Blog: Home is where the Lockdown Heart Is...
- Written by Seren, Pole Divas Prahran Owner
Ah 2020, the curveballs you’ve thrown us all! Restrictions in Victoria are lifting and there’s a light at the end of the tunnel is there. The last thing I thought I would be doing this year is turning my lounge room into a night club but being in isolation has forced me to view my home and the space I live in differently.
I live with a partner who works in essential services and when the studio shut down I was all of a sudden spending A LOT of time alone. Going from chatting to our beautiful Diva babes at the desk, creating fun routines and community events to spending most of my day on the sofa left space for creative thinking when it came to activities I could do at home. So here are 8 ideas for activities that I experienced during lockdown due to our studios being closed. I know businesses are slowly starting to open, therefore we becoming more social in person but if you're weary to leave the house or would still love to plan online events, the following will inspire you to get creative and help bring some fun to 2020.
1. GET CREATIVE
This could mean a whole number of things! So far we’ve done a Bob Ross night, following one of his tutorials had us cracking up the whole time. Our printer paper and Crayola paint brushes were no match for his professional equipment. We’ve painted pot plants and then planted herbs, which I have since killed. We’ve made candles (hot tip, screw the cap back on the scent bottles unless you want your house to smell like rose blossom for a week).
2. MOVIE BED-IN
One of my favourite activities pre-iso was going to the drive in, so I was very excited to replicate it in my own home. I am very fortunate that through my studio I have access to a projector and projector screen. With everything set up in our bedroom, we snacked on popcorn and pretended we were out of the house. However, even if you don’t have access to a projector turn your loungeroom into a drive-in! Grab some snacks, as many pillows as you can, get comfy and watch a movie!
3. PING PONG TOURNAMENT
Arguably my best purchase of 2020 was a $49 portable ping pong table. Not only has it provided hours of entertainment for my puppy who loves chasing the stray balls down the hallway (of which there are many, I’m not very good) but it turned into 7 days of entertainments for the humans of the house. I lost every single day but the scoreboard is still hanging on the wall, so it was clearly a lot of fun.
4. PIZZA NIGHT
Turn your house into your very own pizzeria! If you’re feeling like putting a little extra effort in, you can make your own bases otherwise the ones from the supermarket work just fine. Everyone makes their own pizza, get as crazy as you want with the toppings and not only do you get a yummy pizza out of it but it’s a great way to spend some time together and have a bit of fun!
5. ZOOM TRIVIA NIGHT
I, like many others have been starved for social interactions this year but when afforded the opportunity to interact with others, found topics run dry real quick! But why not grab a group of friends, put together a trivia and test out your knowledge. The best part about doing this, is you can tailor the questions. Do you like going to music festivals? Make that a topic! Or maybe you really like wine? Chuck that in there. The options are endless!
6. TAKE A VIRTUAL DIVAS CLASS TOGTHER
Okay hear me out, I know taking a class is usually a solo activity but with Divas offering so many different kinds of online classes, there’s something for everyone. I’ve had so much fun taking stretch and conditioning classes with my partner, it always ends in a giggle and us feeling like we’ve accomplished something together.
7. LOUNGE ROOM NIGHTCLUB
It’s safe to say that nightlife has taken a pretty big hit this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t re-create a little of that fun at home. Draw a bartender on your fridge in whiteboard marker, play a video of nightclub scene on your TV, turn the lights down and play that funky music. The best part about that, is when noise restrictions come in, plug some headphones in, turn it into a silent disco and dance away your blues.
8. COCKTAIL NIGHT
Even if you’re not an alcohol drinker, you can still have a theme night! There are so many combinations of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks out there, so pick a theme and get going. Maybe you’re going to make drinks named after spells or that are featured in TV show or movie (would you like it shaken not stirred?) but it’s a great way to learn a new thing and sip the night away.
